Who’s going to pitch for the Mets tonight?
Robert Stock will start for the Mets and we’ll break down his numbers later, but after Stock it’s a pretty large question mark. The Mets played a hell of a back and forth game last night eventually winning in the 11th inning. The Mets needed to use 7 pitchers to get to the end of the game and this was after the used 6 pitchers on Sunday. So the Mets bullpen is pretty much as taxed as it has every been right now.
But wins are wins and now the Mets need to figure out how to do it again today. Yesterday the offense broke out in a huge way hitting 7 homers. With the Mets getting a spot start from Robert Stock and facing the most successful 2021 starting pitcher on the Reds, they are going to need the bats to continue yesterday’s momentum.
Robert Stock has made one start as a Met and the Mets got exactly what they needed from it – he allowed 2 runs from 4 hits and 2 walks over 4.0 innings. Not incredibly deep into the game, but better than his 2021 start against the Mets where he allowed 5 runs over 4.0 innings. A few Reds have seen him in major league action before:
- Joey Votto 0-0, BB
- Eugenio Suarez 0-1
- Tucker Barnhart 0-2
Wade Miley is having a bounce back season with the Reds this year. Last year he had a 5.65 ERA over 14.1 innings and 6 games. This year in 16 starts and 96.1 innings he has a 2.80 ERA, 3.24 FIP, 1.163 WHIP and 168 ERA+. In July he has pitched 14.2 innings over two games and allowed only 2 runs from 17 hits and 4 walks. There are only a handful of Mets players who have seen Miley in a major league game:
- James McCann 4-10, 2B, 2 K
- Kevin Pillar 7-24, 2B, HR, BB, 6 K
- Jonathan Villar 1-9, BB, 5 K
- Jose Peraza 2-14, 3 K
Let’s Go Mets!
