Doubleheader Game 2 Preview: Mets @ Rockies

The only thing that can make cold weather better? Playing a make up game deeper into a cold night! The cold night game is actually the make up game from Friday’s snow day and will feature the first start of the season from Joey Lucchesi.

It’s going to be a real mystery what we are going to get from Joey Lucchesi tonight, not just because it’s his first start. Joey hasn’t pitched in a game since April 7th in a game where the Mets lost 8-2 to the Phillies, but Joey was great in that game. He tossed 36 pitches over 2.0 innings allowing a hit and nothing else while striking out 3.

In spring training this year Joey pitched in 4 games and 13.0 innings, allowing 4 ER (a 2.77 ERA) from 7 hits and 4 walks while striking out 15. He didn’t get into a lot of action last year, pitching 5.2 innings allowing 5 runs from 13 hits and 2 walks. This did include a start in Colorado where he allowed 3 runs from 6 hits over 1.2 innings. In 2019 he pitched a full season with 30 starts and 163.2 innings with a 4.18 ERA, 4.17 FIP, 1.222 WHIP and a 99 ERA+. The Rockies have the following numbers against Joey:

The Mets bats will close day out against German Marquez. This will be German’s 4th start this year (half as many games as the Mets have played this year going into today!). In his first three he has allowed 7 runs from 17 hits and 11 walks over 15.2 innings leading to a 4.02 ERA, 5.95 FIP, 1.787 WHIP, and a 118 ERA+. He led the league in starts last year with 13 (and innings with 81.2), putting up a 3.75 ERA, 3.28 FIP, 1.261 WHIP and a 139 ERA+. The Mets have the following numbers against German:
