The Mets wrap up their series in DC this afternoon with the early 12:35 start with Noah Syndergaard lining up against Jordan Zimmerman. Syndergaard is 4-5 over 12 games this season and 73.2 innings of work while posting an ERA of 3.05 and striking out 78 batters. He was the hard luck loser in the first game after the All-Star brak as he held the Cardinals to 2 ER over 5 hits and 7.0 innings (6 K’s) but the offense could only muster a run in the first inning and a run in the 9th inning. Overall in his last four starts he is 2-1 over 29.0 innings with 30 K’s and a 1.55 ERA. Not surprisingly, this will be Noah’s first start against the Nationals in his career (remember, the Mets faced an overwhelming amount of NL East opponents in April and early May, and then middish May was when Syndergaard was brought up).
The Mets bats get a look at an old foe in Jordan Zimmermann who is 8-5 over 19 starts and 115.2 innings this year with a 3.27 ERA and 84 strikeouts. His first start back from the All-Star break was quite short where he allowed 2 ER over 4.0 innings against the Dodgers. When you look through his numbers this year, he’s basically been lights out or average to slightly below average. Not much middle ground. His first start of the season was against the Mets and held the boys from Queens to 1 ER over 6.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Zimmermann:
- Murphy 17-53, 5 2B, 3 HR
- Duda 7-32, 2 2B
- Lagares 6-23, 2 2B
- Tejada 6-21
- Granderson 3-16
- Flores 4-13, 3B
- Recker 2-8, 2B
- Mayberry 3-6
Lets Go Mets!
