Well it wasn’t the best of days for the Amazin’s yesterday. Matt Harvey allowed 5 runs (there is a disturbing trend developing in his pitching ability and extra rest) and the Mets bats couldn’t absorb 5 runs (because they can barely absorb 3 runs), so the Mets lost. But today Jacob deGrom takes the mound against Joe Ross and hopefully things will be different!
Jacob, the all-star, is 9-6 over 17 starts and 113.2 innings with a 2.14 ERA. In his last 10 starts before the All-Star break he logged 72.0 innings with 75 strikeouts and a 1.38 ERA. His last start before the break was an absolute gem where he allowed no runs over 8.0 innings while striking out 10. And of course, there was the All-Star game where he struck out 3 All-Stars on a total of 10 pitches. This year he is 0-2 over two starts against the Nationals and 11.1 innings with a 3.97 ERA. The Nationals have the following numbers against Jacob:
- Harper 3-8, 2B
- Desmond 2-8, HR
- Escobar 2-5
- Ramos 2-6, 2B
- Uggla 1-4, 2B
- Zimmermann 0-3
The Mets bats will draw rookie Joe Ross who is 2-1 over 3 starts in his major league career and 20.1 innings with a 2.66 ERA while striking out 23 batters. Also statistically, he’s been getting better each start, but this will be his first start since June 19th. His minor statistics are odd, because this year he has been used mostly as a reliever pitching in 12 games but only 5.1 innings with a 16.88 ERA but overall in the minors he has a 4.13 ERA over 74 games, 60 starts and 305.0 innings. He has never faced the Mets in the major league game.
Lets Go Mets!
