Game Preview: Mets @ Giants

The Mets actually scored 8 runs? The Mets actually took the series in LA? Believe it. It hapened! Yesterday the Mets hit up the Dodgers for 8 runs including a 4 hit day by Wilmer Flores and received an excellent start from Steve Matz as he pitched 6.0 innings striking out 8 batters. Jon Niese will look to keep the good times going in San Francisco tonight. The Mets bats will get a look Chris Heston who cemented his place in Mets history earlier in June by tossing a no-hitter at Citi-Field.

Niese is 3-8 over 15 starts this season and 90.0 innings with a 3.90 ERA. June was good to Niese although he was 0-3 over 5 starts. In that stretch he pitched 33.0 innings with a 3.00 ERA. One of those starts was against the Giants where he allowed 4 runs, only 2 earned over 7.0 innings. The Giants have the following numbers against Jon:

  • Posey 8-22, HR
  • Pagan 1-13, HR
  • Crawford 5-12, 3B, HR
  • Blanco 1-10
  • Arias 2-8
  • Duffy 1-5

Chris Heston is 8-5 over 16 games and 97.2 innings with a 3.78 ERA this year. On June 9th he pitched a no hitter against the Mets, striking out 11  batters in the process. Since the no-hitter he has been 2-1 over 23.2 innings in 4 starts with a 3.80 ERA, so consistent with his season numbers. The Mets have the following numbers against Heston:

  • Teajada 0-3
  • Campbell 0-3
  • Cuddyer 0-3
  • Duda 0-2
  • Flores 0-3
  • Lagares 0-3
  • Ceciliani 0-1
