Game Preview: Mets @ Nationals

The Mets and the Nationals play game two today as the Mets try to take the series. Last night the Mets made a bid for a comeback victory but they couldn't hold on after a blown save by Bobby Parnell. One common theme over the last two games is the Mets have actually been hitting homers. The Mets will be starting Mike Pelfrey today as he goes against Livan Hernandez.

Pelfrey is 7-11 this season with a 4.65 ERA. In his last three starts he has pitched 17.0 innings with an ERA of 5.29. Unbelievably, this is the first time Pelfrey has faced the Nationals all season, seriously. Last season he pitched in four games against the Nats with an ERA of 5.24. The Nationals have the following numbers against Big Pelf:

Zimmerman 11-45, 2B, HR

Werth 8-29, 2B, 3B

Desmond 4-11, 2 2B, 3B, HR

Ankiel 4-9

The Mets will get a look at a familiar foe (and past player) in Livan Hernandez today. He is 8-12 on the season with an ERA of 4.29. In his last two starts he has allowed 6 ER over 14.1 innings of work. Against the Mets this season he is 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA over 15.0 innings of work. The Mets have the following numbers Livan:

Reyes 16-59, 3 2B, 2 3B

Wright 12-49, 3 2B, 4 HR

Bay 6-20, 2 2B

Tejada 4-9, 2B

Let's Go Mets!
