We made it! This is the last late start for the Mets before the All-Star Break! Tomorrow the Mets play a 7 PM game and then they return to the East Coast! No longer will we have to decide between sleep and Mets baseball! Anyway, the Mets won last night. A win tonight will clinch a series victory and guarantee that the Mets go at least .500 on this grueling West Coast swing.
Carlos Carrasco gets the start for the Mets tonight. Over 11 starts and 64.0 innings this year he has a 3.52 ERA, 2.68 FIP, 1.156 WHIP and a 114 ERA+. He is also leading the league in wins at 7. In June he has made two starts, totaling 12 innings of work allowing only two runs (1.50 ERA) from nine hits and five walks while striking out 15. Carrasco struck out 10 betters in his last start alone, the first time this season he has had double digit strikeouts. The Angels have the following numbers against him:
- Mike Trout 3-11, 2 2B, 2 BB, 4 K
- Kurt Suzuki 1-8, 2 K
- Anthony Rendon 0-2, BB, K
- Andrew Velazquez 1-3, K
- Juan Lagares 0-1
- Shohei Ohtani 0-1
- Jared Walsh 1-1, HR
The Mets bats will get a look at Michael Lorenzen tonight. The long time Reds pitcher signed as a free agent this past off-season and so far is experiencing a bounce-back year. He has made nine starts and pitched 53 2/3 innings with a 3.69 ERA, 3.84 FIP, 1.137 WHIP and a 107 ERA+. He is in the midst of a rough patch, allowing eight runs from ten hits and seven walks in his last two starts (12 1/3 innings), which is a 5.84 ERA.
The last couple of years the Reds used Lorenzen primarily in the bullpen, the Angels have only used him as a starter. As a reliever last year he faced the Mets on back to back days at the end of July, holding the Mets scoreless over two innings while picking up two holds. The Mets have the following numbers against him:
- Starling Marte6-17, 2 2B, HR, 3 BB, 3 K
- Francisco Lindor 1-6, K
- Brandon Nimmo 1-4, 2B
- Pete Alonso 1-2
- Jeff McNeil 0-0, 2 BB
- Eduardo Escobar 1-1
Let’s Go Mets!
