Game Preview: Rockies vs Mets

Last night was a ride! Late in the game the Mets allowed a three-run double, which turned the game from a 4-3 Mets lead to a 6-4 Rockies lead. Mark Canha came up clutch in the next inning with a game tying double. Pete Alonso got the walk-off RBI in the bottom of the ninth. The Mets showed the fight they’ve shown all year and got the win, keeping their division lead to 2.0 games.

Now the Mets go for the series win tonight against the Rockies tonight. David Peterson will make his 16th start of the season. So far over 83 2/3 innings, Peterson has a 3.44 ERA, 3.89 FIP, 1.327 WHIP and a 115 ERA+. Peterson was called on as the doubleheader starter twice this month. Against Atlanta he looked great, holding the Braves to three hits and three walks and no runs over 5 1/3 innings. Last week against the Phillies – not so much. He allowed eight runs and two walks over 4 2/3 innings while allowing three runs. If we take a longer view, in Peterson’s last 10 major league games he has pitched 43 2/3 innings with a 3.30 ERA while striking out 62 batters. The Rockies have the following numbers against David:

  • Elias Diaz 1-1, HR, BB

In his last three starts he has pitched 16 2/3 innings allowing 15 runs, 14 earned, from 24 hits and 6 walks (7.56 ERA, 5.71 FIP). Things don’t look terribly better for Freeland if we take a longer view. In his last ten starts and 57 1/3 innings, he has posted a 5.81 ERA, 4.82 FIP with opponents hitting .289/.352/.480 against him. The Mets have the following career numbers against him:
