The Mets go for the series sweep of the Reds this afternoon at Citi Field! Lindor and McNeil got the offense started for the Mets last night with a couple of homers and Ruf added in some critical insurance with two RBI’s as the Mets took the second game of the series.
Taijuan Walker gets the start this afternoon and he’ll look to put his last outing behind him. Last time out he battled an injury due to a collision with a runner on the bases. He just didn’t look right after that. He was tagged with eight runs from seven hits including two homers, which was more runs than his previous four starts combined. It was also enough to raise his season ERA from a 2.79 to a 3.45.
Walker has already faced the Reds once this year where he allowed three runs from four hits and a walk over six innings while striking out nine. The Reds have the following career numbers against him:
- Mike Moustakas 1-10, 3 K
- Joey Votto 1-5, HR, BB, K
- Jonathan India 0-2, BB, 2 K
- Albert Almora 0-2, 2 K
- Matt Reynolds 0-1
- Nick Senzel 1-2
For the second time this series, the Mets will see a pitcher making his 2022 debut. Today T.J. Zeuch, a 6’7″ right-handed pitcher, gets the start. Zeuch made his major league debut with the Blue Jays back in 2019. Between 2019 and 2021 he’s pitched in a total of 13 games, including seven starts, at the major league level. Over those 49 innings he has a 4.59 ERA, 5.79 FIP, 1.551 WHIP and a 99 ERA+.
In July of last year, the Cardinals purchased his contract from the Blue Jays. In May of this year he was released by the Cardinals and then got picked up by the Reds. With the Cardinals AAA club in Memphis this year, Zeuch made five starts with a 11.64 ERA. Things went much better with the Reds AAA team where he made five starts with a 3.63 ERA. He has not faced any Mets players yet in a major league game.
Let’s Go Mets!
