Game Preview: Mets @ Reds

Yesterday was a good day for the Mets and they look to keep the good vibes going in Cincinnati this evening. The Mets beat the Rangers 4-1, taking the rubber game on the same day that the Braves lost. Jacob deGrom tossed 24 pitches and struck out five batters. All of this leads to a happy flight from Queens to Ohio.

Taijuan Walker gets the series started for the Mets. Over 13 starts and 72 2/3 innings he has a 2.72 ERA, 3.09 FIP, 1.170 WHIP and a 148 ERA+. Walker is coming off of a dominant start against the Astros where he allowed no runs over 7 1/3 innings, scattering four hits and two walks. That was the third time in his last four starts where he has allowed one run or less. Overall in his last four starts he has pitched 26.0 innings, striking out 27 batters with a 1.73 ERA and a 1.73 FIP.

The Reds have the following numbers against Walker:

  • Mike Moustakas 0-7, K
  • Tommy Pham 1-6, BB
  • Tyler Naquin 0-5, 4 K
  • Joey Votto 1-2, HR, BB

The Mets bats will get a look at the flame throwing rookie Hunter Greene tonight. His fastball sits at 99 and frequently goes above 100 (check out his Baseball Savant page for more info!). He has made 15 starts tossing 74 innings this season with a 5.72 ERA, 5.53 FIP, 1.338 WHIP and an 82 ERA+. He has also allowed a league leading 20 homers. Over his last three starts he has allowed 15 runs, 13 earned, over 14 innings (8.36 ERA). So ultimately today will be the story of power pitching vs power hitting.

Let’s Go Mets!
