I wake up before 5 AM during the work week, so when the Mets and Giants play, it’s as if the game was played on a different planet. I generally have little to no insight as to how the game is going until I wake up in the morning. The last thing I remember before going to sleep last night was a notification about Brandon Crawford hitting a two run homer, giving the Giants a 2-0 lead.
This is all to say, I was extremely surprised when I woke up and saw the Mets won 13-3 while recording 18 hits. This included homers from Pete, Jeff and Mark. J.D. Davis, who has struggled so far this season, went 4-5 at the plate! And now the Mets are in position to take another series this year with a win against the Giants tonight.
Chris Bassitt looks to make that happen for the Mets. Over eight games and 48 2/3 innings this year he has a 2.77 ERA, 3.80 FIP, 1.089 WHIP and 140 ERA+. He’s coming off of a start where he allowed four runs and nine hits (season high) against the Cardinals. His worst start this season was against the Giants, so he’ll be searching for revenge tonight. In that start he allowed five runs from eight hits over six innings. The Giants have the following career numbers against him:
- Tommy La Stella 3-12, 2B, BB, 2 K
- Brandon Belt 2-9, HR, BB, 3 K
- Brandon Crawford 4-9, 2B, HR, BB, K
- Evan Longoria 1-8, 3 K
- Wilmer Flores 1-6, K
- Darin Ruf 1-5, BB, 2 K
- Mike Yastrzemski 2-6, 3 K
- Joc Pederson 2-3, 2B, K
The Mets bats get to see Logan Webb again tonight. Webb has pitched eight games and 48 1/3 innings with a 3.54 ERA, 3.11 FIP, 1.262 WHIP and a 112 ERA+. Since his second start of the season this year, Webb has tossed 34 1/3 innings and allowed 17 runs (4.46 ERA). This includes a start against the Mets where he allowed three runs over 3 2/3 innings from six hits and three walks. The Mets have the following career numbers against him:
- Eduardo Escobar 3-11, 2B, 3 K
- Mark Canha 3-7, 2 HR, 2 BB, 3 K
- Brandon Nimmo 0-6, BB, 2 K
- Pete Alonso 1-5, HR, BB, K
- Starling Marte 2-5
- Jeff McNeil 0-5
- J.D. Davis 1-3, K
- Patrick Mazeika 1-2, BB, K
- Dominic Smith 2-3
- Luis Guillorme 1-1, BB
- Francisco Lindor 2-2, 2B
Let’s Go Mets!
