Game Preview: Phillies vs Mets

The Mets return home tonight after winning six straight series to open up the season. The Mets haven’t faced an NL East opponent since playing the Nationals and Phillies on the road to open the season – and now the Mets will play their next four series against NL East teams (Phillies, Braves, Phillies again, and the Nationals). On top of that, the Mets are about to play 11 games in 10 days before their next scheduled day off.

The Phillies are on a bit of a hot streak themselves, winning their last four games, which has improved their record to 10-10 on the season and they now have a positive run differential (+12). The Mets, who have won seven of their last ten games, have a run differential of +33.

Tylor Megill will get the series started tonight for the Mets. In his first four games this season he has tossed 23 innings with a 2.35 ERA, 2.67 FIP, 0.913 WHIP and a 157 ERA+. This includes his second start of the season which was against Philly. In that game he allowed only three hits and struck out five batters over five and a third innings. No runs. No walks. The Phillies have the following numbers against Megill:

The Mets will face Aaron Nola again tonight! In his first four starts of the season, he has pitched 21 2/3 innings with a 3.74 ERA, 4.27 FIP, 0.877 WHIP and a 103 ERA+. Back on April 13th the Mets scored three runs on Nola from three hits and three walks over three and a third innings. In his first two starts (including the one against the Mets) Nola allowed seven runs over 9 1/3 innings. In his last two starts he has allowed only two runs over 12 1/3 innings.
