Last night was great for the Mets if you turned the game off after the top of the first inning. The Mets scored 2 runs in the first inning off of a Pete Alonso homer. The Braves then scored 20 unanswered runs in a game so lopsided that the Mets run differential flipped from positive to negative. A 20-2 loss still counts as only one loss and the Mets look to rebound today behind Jacob deGrom!
Jacob deGrom has started 13 games and pitched 78.0 innings with a 0.69 ERA, 0.98 FIP, 0.526 WHIP and a 549 ERA+. He’s coming off of his worst start of the season which would be a really good start for anyone else. In this “worst start” he allowed 2 runs from 3 hits and a walk over 6.0 innings while striking out 5. The start before that he faced Atlanta in a 7-inning game where deGrom pitched 5.0 innings of 1-hit ball, walking 2 batters while striking out 6. The Braves have the following numbers against deGrom:
- Kevan Smith 1-2, 2B
- Austin Riley 2-9, HR, 4 K
- Freddie Freeman 15-60, 2 2B, 3 HR, 8 BB, 16 K
- Ronald Acuna Jr. 8-27, 2B, 2 BB, 9 K
- Pablo Sandoval 2-10, 2 2B, 4 K
- Dansby Swanson 4-22, 2 2B, 3 BB, 12 K
- Ender Inciarte 7-40, 3 BB, 9 K
- Guillermo Heredia 0-2, BB
- Ozzie Albies 5-39, 2B, BB, 11 K
- Ehire Adrianza 0-1, K
- Abraham Almonte 0-3, K
Ian Anderson will make his 16th start of the season today. In his previous 15 starts and 81.2 innings, he has a 3.42 ERA, 3.21 FIP, 1.176 WHIP and a 129 ERA+. Every other start in June has been average to bad, so if the pattern holds, Anderson will be tough for the Mets today. Anderson has made two starts against the Mets in 2021. In his first start he allowed 4 runs from 7 hits and a walk in 4.0 innings. In his second start, he held the Mets scoreless over 5.1 innings while the Mets mustered up 3 hits and a walk. The Mets have the following career numbers against Anderson:
- James McCann 3-5, 2B, HR, K
- Jose Peraza 1-2
- Dominic Smith 2-7, K
- Pete Alonso 1-4, K
- Francisco Lindor 1-5, K
- Michael Conforto 0-2, BB, K
- Kevin Pillar 0-2
- Jeff McNeil 0-4, K
- Billy McKinney 0-5, 3 K
- Luis Guillorme 0-1
Let’s Go Mets!
