Game Preview: Mets @ Marlins

The Mets lost another heartbreaker last night on a walk-off Cooper homer. The Mets didn’t announce a starter yesterday until a bit over an hour before the start of the game. I was personally convinced it was going to be Jordan Yamamoto but it ended up being Joey Lucchesi. Lucchesi and Sean Reid-Foley really held it down for the Mets, going 6.1 innings allowing 1 run. The offense struggled, but that’s been the story for the Mets most of the season, even more so with just about every starter injured.

Winning 2 of every 3 games is the ultimate goal of the season and the Mets can still make that happen this afternoon!

Jordan Yamamoto will make his second start with the Mets today! In his only major league outing this year, Jordan Yamamoto pitched 2.2 innings, allowing 1 run off 4 hits and no walks while striking out 1. In Syracuse this season he has made three starts, pitching 9.2 innings with a 3.72 ERA and 1.655 WHIP. This will be a revenge outing of sorts for him as he goes against his former team.

The Mets bats will get a look at Cody Poteet today who will be making his third career start. He’s been great over his first two starts tossing 10.0 innings allowing 2 runs from 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9. He’s also made one start in AAA this year where he was 1.2 years younger than the average player and allowed only one run over 5.2 innings from 3 hits. Overall in the minors he has pitched over 6 seasons and 510.2 innings (99 games) with a 3.84 ERA and a 1.287 WHIP.
