The Mets will finally play a team an opponent outside of the division tonight!
Maybe.
The 2021 Mets cannot catch a break when it comes to getting a consistent schedule. They started the year off with three straight postponements due to covid, played 5 games in a row, then had two games in a row postponed due to rain, played 3 games in 2 days (and won all of them) before yesterday’s postponement. There’s a small chance that tonight’s game will be postponed. I can’t remember another season of Mets baseball where games were postponed on back to back days twice in the season (let alone in the same week).
Meanwhile it’s snowing in Denver. That’s not unheard of (they average a little over 8 inches of snow each April, thank you SNY for teaching us that the other day). There was a snowstorm overnight into this morning and tonight. A few days ago it looked like snow and rain would carry on into game time. Things look better now, the storm looks to move out of the area by the mid-afternoon. The question is, can they clear the stadium of snow before game time? (This happened in 2013 when the Mets traveled to Denver). Snow or no snow tonight, the low should be 27 degrees.
So its a cold, happy deGrom day! In two starts this year, deGrom has pitched 14.0 innings allowing 8 hits and 1 run with two walks while striking out a staggering 21 batters. The last time that deGrom pitched against the Rockies was in 2019 and he allowed 2 runs over 6.0 innings from 6 hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters. There are very few members of the Rockies who have faced deGrom in a game:
- C.J. Cron 1-2, 2 BB
- Raimel Tapia 1-4, 2B, K
- Trevor Story 2-13, 2B, BB, 5 K
- Charlie Blackmon 2-19, 2B, BB, 3 K
The Mets batters will get a look at Chi Chi Gonzalez, who will make his 2nd start of the year and his 4th game overall. He’s allowed 4 runs from 9 hits and 6 walks over 10.0 innings while striking out 5. His season started off rough where he allowed 3 runs in a 2.0 inning outing against the Dodgers. Since then he’s allowed 1 run over 8.0 innings. Gonzalez has not pitched a full season in the majors yet and because of that he’s only seen two Mets, both recent signings, in major league games:
- Jose Peraza 0-1
- Kevin Pillar 0-7, K
Let’s Go Mets!
