The Mets imploded late yesterday and now they try to salvage a game this series before a critical series with the Cubs. Yesterday the Braves jumped all over the Mets early, taking a 4-0 lead but the Mets clawed back getting the score to 4-2 before Pete Alonso hit his 41st homer of the year, giving the Mets the lead and giving him a share of the single season home run record. But the bullpen fell apart late with some defensive miscues tossed in, and the offense made some weird decisions (Rosario bunting?). It was a mess at the end of it, the Mets just need a fresh start today.
So Steven Matz will look to give the Mets that fresh start. He is 8-7 over 25 games and 23 starts totaling 122.2 innings with a 4.18 ERA, 4.55 FIP, 1.337 WHIP and 98 ERA+. In his last three starts he has allowed 5 runs, 4 earned, over 19.0 innings, a 1.89 ERA while opponents are slashing a .203/.257/.333 against him. This includes a start against the Braves where he held them to 1 run over 6.0 innings from 2 hits and a walk. The Braves have the following batting lines against Matz:
- Freddie Freeman 7-25, 2 2B, HR, BB, 4 K
- Ozzie Albies 3-12, 2B, K
- Ender Inciarte 3-9, 2B, BB, K
- Ronald Acuna Jr. 3-9, 3B, BB, K
- Josh Donaldson 2-7, HR, BB, 3 K
- Adeiny Hechavarria 2-9, K
- Billy Hamilton 0-3
The Mets bats will try to find consistency within themselves against Dallas Keuchel who is 4-5 over 12 starts and 71.2 innings. He has a 4.14 ERA, 4.89 FIP, 1.340 WHIP and 111 ERA+. His last two starts together are the best he’s been all season allowing 1 run on 11 hits and 4 walks in 12.0 innings while striking out 14. This includes 6.0 shutout innings against the Mets last week. The Mets have the following batting lines against Dallas:
- Rajai Davis 0-20, 2 BB, 5 K
- Todd Frazier 0-7, 3 K
- Wilson Ramos 1-4, 2 BB
- Pete Alonso 0-2
- Michael Conforto 0-2, BB< 2 K
- J.D. Davis 1-3, K
- Amed Rosario 2-3, K
- Juan Lagares 0-2
Let’s Go Mets!
