Last night’s game was not only suspended on the field, but will be suspended in the hall of Mets Things That Happen To The Mets. With a 2 run lead heading into the ninth, the rain just started pouring. While the groundscrew was working incredibly hard to dry it off, a delay was eventually called and the tarp was brought out.
Then the rain paused for a moment, the umpires decided to reverse the decision (note: the Mets have been standing on the field, in the rain the whole time) and eventually the 9 minute rain delay came to an end. Edwin Diaz eventually let up two runs in the inning, tying the game and then the umpires launched into an actual rain delay that turned into a suspension of play. So we’ll start tonight off at 6:10 with last night’s game in extra innings.
And probably 30 minutes or so after that concludes, we’ll go back to our regular scheduled program of Steven Matz. He is 5-4 over 12 games and 62.2 innings with a 3.88 ERA, 4.63 FIP, 1.327 WHIP and 103 ERA+. After a terrible start at the beginning of May where he allowed 5 runs over 6.0 innings, he rebounded in his last start allowing 3 runs, 2 earned over 6.0 innings. In two starts last year against the Cardinals he allowed 10 runs, 6 earned over 7.1 innings. The Cardinals have the following numbers against him:
- Marcell Ozuna 5-15, 2B, 2 BB, 3 K
- Dexter Fowler 2-9, BB, 2 K
- Matt Wieters 2-8, HR, 2 BB
- Paul Goldschmidt 2-8, 2 HR, 3 K
- Paul DeJong 4-5, 2B, 2 HR, BB, K
- Yadier Molina 1-6, HR
- Jose Martinez 1-4, K
Daniel Ponce de Leon is making his second start of the season. In his first start, he allowed 1 run over 5.0 innings. Last year, his first season in the majors, he had a bit more playing time, making his way into 11 games and 4 starts totaling 33.0 innings with a 2.73 ERA, 3.34 FIP, 1.121 WHIP and 144 ERA+. This will be his first time facing the Mets and no batters on the Mets faced him last year while they were members of other teams.
Let’s Go Mets!
