The Mets are fresh off a day of rest that followed their double header split against the Yankees on Tuesday. In the afternoon, Wheeler melted down and the Mets lost 12-5 after leading 4-1. In the night cap, led by Pete Alonso‘s 22nd homer, the Mets repaid the favor and beat the Yankees 10-4. Jason Vargas was human, allowing 3 runs, but continued his trend of pitching deeper in games so it didn’t matter as much.
Now it’s deGrom’s turn! Jacob deGrom is 3-6 over 13 games and 75.2 innings with a 3.45 ERA, 3.12 FIP, 1.150 WHIP and 116 ERA+. In his last four starts he has allowed 6 runs over 23.2 innings, a 2.28 ERA. He had one start against the Cardinals last year allowing 1 run over 5.2 innings from 3 hits and a walk while striking out 7. The Cardinals have the following batting lines against him:

Tonight will be his first start against the Mets, the only Met who has seen him in a major league game is Adeiny Hechavarria who is 0-2 with a strikeout.
