Second straight win in a row! The Mets beat the Marlins again last night, this time thanks to great pitching from Jacob deGrom and timely hitting from Alonso and Conforto. Jacob put together his third straight performance of going 7.0 innings allowing two runs or less and now it’s Noah Syndergaard’s turn to get back into form.
Noah Syndergaard is 2-3 over 8 games and 49.0 innings with a 5.14 ERA, 3.55 FIP, 1.327 WHIP and 75 ERA+. He started May off with an immaculate game, pitching a complete game shutout and hitting a solo homer for the game’s only run and he followed it up with a bad performance in San Diego allowing 5 runs, 4 earned over 6.0 innings from 9 hits and a walk. Last year he was 3-0 over as many games against the Marlins including a complete game shutout allowing a total of 5 runs, 4 earned in 22.0 innings (1.64 ERA). The Marlins have the following numbers against him:
- Starlin Castro 3-12, 2B, BB, 3 K
- Miguel Rojas 4-11, 2 K
- Martin Prado 2-8, BB, 3 K
- Brian Anderson 2-7, 2B
- Magneuris Sierra 1-6, 2B
- JT Riddle 1-5, K
- Neil Walker 0-5, 2 K
The Mets bats have to deal with by far the best pitcher in the Marlins rotation right now, Caleb Smith. Smith is 3-0 over 7 games and 42.2 innings with a 2.11 ERA, 2.84 FIP, 0.891 WHIP and 183 ERA+. His numbers are even better if you chop off his first two starts, posting a 1.42 ERA in his last 5 games and 31.2 innings. He’s only recorded outs in the 7th inning twice this year those have both been his last two starts. His first start of the year was against the Mets who scored two runs over 5.0 innings and then beat up the bullpen later to win that game. The Mets have the following numbers on Smith:
- Michael Conforto 3-8, 4 K
- Amed Rosario 1-7, 2B, 3 K
- Robinscon Cano 1-4, K
- Juan Lagares 0-4, 2 K
- Pete Alonso 0-3, 2 K
- Brandon Nimmo 0-3, 2 K
- JD Davis 1-2, 2B
- Jeff McNeil 1-1, 2B, BB
Lets Go Mets!
