Game Preview: Mets @ Brewers

Yesterday was the Noah Syndergaard show and the Mets sure needed it. Going into the game yesterday both Diaz and Lugo were unavailable in the pen. Combined with Familia on the IL the top 3 late inning relievers were out on the Mets roster. In general the bullpen was overtaxed and Syndergaard desperately needed a positive start after his last three.

Noah Syndergaard ended up tossing a complete game shutout, holding the Reds to 4 hits and hit a solo homer which ended up being the only run the Mets scored all game. He was the entire game.

Now the Mets head to Milwaukee to avenge their lost series last weekend. Steven Matz opens tonight. He is 3-1 over 6 starts and 29.1 innings with a 3.68 ERA, 4.72 FIP, 1.091 WHIP and a 105 ERA+. In his last two starts he’s allowed 3 runs over 13.0 innings and if you take his terrible start this year, he’s actually allowed only 8 total runs, 6 earned over 29.1 innings. His last start, 2 runs over 7.0 innings, was against the Brewers who have the following numbers against him:

The Mets will get another look at Brandon Woodruff, who lasted started against the Mets. Brandon is 3-1 over 6 starts and 31.1 innings this year with a 5.17 ERA, 3.59 FIP, 1.468 WHIP, and 84 ERA+. His last start against the Mets was his best of the season, allowing 1 run over 5.0 innings off 6 hits and a walk. The Mets have the following numbers against him:
