Game Preview: Mets @ Yankees

The Mets and Yankees make up a rain out tonight! The Mets are fresh off a series win in Miami where in the rubber game they rode 7.0 innings from Syndergaard and some timely hitting from Conforto and Reyes (thus cementing his position on the 2019 team) into the win column.

The Mets send out Jacob deGrom and I don’t know how Yankee fans should react. Scared because he’s one of the best pitchers in baseball right now? Or content because the Mets rarely score for him? The Mets bucked that trend in deGrom’s last outing scoring 8 runs. On the season he is 6-7 over 23 games and 152.1 innings with a 1.77 ERA (league leading), 2.20 FIP (league leading), 0.965 WHIP and 212 ERA+ (league leading). Since the start of July deGrom has posted a 1.60 ERA in 45.0 innings and has posted a 1.29 ERA in 14.0 innings in August. On June 8th he allowed 3 runs, 2 earned over 8.0 innings against the Yankees, in a game the Yankees won 4-1. The Yankees have the following numbers against deGrom:

  • Stanton 9-25, 2B, 4 HR, 3 BB, 7 K
  • Gardner 4-14, HR, 2 BB
  • Gregorius 2-12, 2 K
  • Hicks 2-8, 2 K
  • Judge 1-5, 2B, 2 BB, 2 K
  • Sanchez 2-6, 3 K
  • Walker 2-6, BB
  • Andujar 0-4
  • Bird 0-3, 2 K
  • Torres 2-4
  • Torreyes 2-3, 2B

Luis Severino takes the mound for the Yankees and he is 15-5 (league leading in wins) over 24 games and 150.1 innings with a 3.11 ERA, 3.02 FIP, 1.104 WHIP and 140 ERA+. The last time the Mets and Yankees met up, this would have been a marquee match up. It still is but under a cloud. Severino has been struggling as of late. Since July 7th over 6 games and 32.0 innings he has posted a 7.31 ERA. It’s an 8.28 ERA over 5 games and 25.0 innings if you forget about his last start on August 8th where he allowed only 2 runs over 7.0 innings. He held the Mets to 2 runs over 5.0 innings back on June 10th. The Mets have the following numbers against Luis:

  • Bautista 2-13, HR, 3 BB, 7 K
  • Frazier 3-6, HR, 2 BB
  • Conforto 0-6, BB, 2 K
  • Jackson 0-3, 2 BB
  • Mesoraco 1-5
  • Rosario 0-5, 2 K
  • Nimmo 2-3, BB
  • Flores 0-2, 2 K
  • Reyes 1-1

Let’s Go Mets!
