Game Preview: Blue Jays vs Mets

After an extended rain delay the Mets were able to deliver a win, putting them in a position to sweep the two game set this afternoon. Last night Syndergaard led the Mets through 5.0 innings of good pitching and got the offense started with an RBI. After giving up 2 runs the Mets offense turned it on and ended up winning the game 12-2 thanks to a 4-hit game by Lagares and Mesoraco who scored 4 times and was on base 5 times (2 hits, 3 walks).

Wheeler looks to keep the Mets on the right track this afternoon. He is 2-2 over 6 games and 34.0 innings with a 5.03 ERA, 4.17 FIP, 1.441 WHIP and 77 ERA+. Zack is coming off of his best start since his first start. On May 9th he allowed 1 run from 4 hits and 3 walks in 6.0 innings while striking out 7 in a game the Mets eventually lost 2-1. Very few Blue Jays have seen Wheeler in a game:

  • Grichuk 0-3
  • Donaldson 1-2
  • Solarte 1-1

The Mets bats will get a look at long-time Philly, now long time Blue Jay, J.A. Happ. The 35 year-old is 4-3 this season over 8 starts and 45.0 innings with a 4.80 ERA, 4.32 FIP, 1.267 WHIP and a 93 ERA+. He is coming off his worst start of the season against the Mariners where he allowed 7 runs from 10 hits and 2 walks in 3.1 innings which raised his ERA from 3.67 to 4.80. The last time he faced the Mets was in 2015 as a member of the Pirates where he held the Mets to 1 run from 7 hits and a walk in 5.1 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Happ:
