Game Preview: Twins vs Mets

The Mets go for the sweep of the Twins today as Gabriel Ynoa makes his first major league start. Last night the Mets went to extras and it was Granderson who made the different hitting a walk-off homer. With the Cardinals beating the Giants last night at about the same time, the Mets now have a two game lead in the chase against the Cardinals and tied for the first spot with the Giants. Originally deGrom was supposed to make today’s start but he’s been sidelined for the rest of the season.

Ynoa has pitched in 6 games so far this season totaling 5.1 innings allowing 9 runs and 4 walks. In Las Vegas this year he went 12-5 over 25 starts and 154.1 innings with a 3.97 ERA, which is impressive when you remember how hitter friendly Las Vegas is.

The Mets bats draw Kyle Gibson who is 6-9 over 22 starts and 131.0 innings this season with a 5.08 ERA. He’s coming off of a strong start against the Tigers where he held them to 1 ER over 8.0 innings. Before that start he 18 ER in 22.0 innings over 4 games. He made a start against the Mets way back in his rookie season where he allowed 4 ER and 10 hits over 3.2 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Gibson:

  • Cespedes 3-8
  • Cabrera 0-7
  • De Aza 1-6
  • K Johnson 1-4, 2B
  • Reyes 1-3
  • Lagares 2-2
  • Flores 1-2, 2B
