The Mets lost another tough one last night. Steven Matz didn’t have his best stuff, but he was able to hold the Rockies to 2 runs despite giving up what felt like two dozen hits. It didn’t really matter though as the Mets offense was again no where to be found. Outside of a solo shot by James Loney, the Mets would get people out on base and just leave them there. Then, the Rockies finished the game with a 3 run shot dagger that put any hope to bed for the Mets. Tonight, on Mike Piazza number retirement day, the Mets look to Bartolo Colon to help keep the ship afloat.
Bartolo Colon is 9-5 over 21 games, 20 starts and 115.2 innings with a 3.35 ERA. He is coming off a strong start against the Cardinals where he held them to 1 ER over 7.0 innings while striking out 8. Last year one of his worst starts of the year came against the Rockies as he allowed 7 ER off 3 homers in 3.2 innings of work. The Rockies have the following numbers against Colon:
- Reynolds 7-19, 2 2B
- Gonzalez 4-7, 2 HR
- Raburn 1-7
- Arenado 3-5, 2B, HR
- Blackmon 3-6, 2B
- Descalso 1-6
The Mets bats will try to find themselves against Jorge De La Rosa who is 6-7 over 17 games and 14 starts this year totaling 79.0 innings with a 5.70 ERA. With the exception of one start where he allowed 7 earned runs, 9 total, over 4.0 innings, July has been good to Jorge where he pitched 30.1 innings with a 4.45 ERA. Last year he faced the Mets once allowed 2 ER over 6.0 innings while striking out 7. The Mets have the following numbers against Jorge:
- Loney 8-18, 2 2B, HR
- Walker 4-13
- Reyes 3-10, 2B
- K Johnson 2-10, 2B
- Granderson 1-9, HR
- Rivera 0-9
- d’Arnaud 1-4
- Cespedes 0-3
Let’s Go Mets!
