Game Preview: Mets @ Nationals

The Mets lost to the Nationals last night, setting up a matinee rubber game today between Steven Matz and Tanner Roark. After drubbing the Nationals Monday night, the Nationals got the better of the Mets last night. A Mets win today will bring the season series between the two clubs to 3-3. Steven Matz is 6-1 over 7 starts and 41.2 innings with 43 K’s with an ERA of 2.81. However, when you take out the first start of the season, he is 6-0 in his last 6 starts with an 1.35 ERA over 40.0 innings with 42 K’s. He’s been a bit more human in his last two starts going 13.0 innings with 4 ER and 13 K’s. This will be Steven Matz’s first start against the Nationals and no one on the Nationals roster has seen him while a member of other teams.

Tanner Roark is 3-3 over 9 starts with 56.0 innings and 2.89 ERA in his return to the rotation this year. He is coming off back to back starts against the Marlins (4 0f his 9 starts are against the Marlins this year), one where he allowed 7 ER over 5.0 innings and one where he allowed 1 ER over 6.2 innings. Last year he logged 11.1 innings against the Mets over 5 games, 1 start with a 3.18 ERA. The Mets have the following numbers against Tanner:

  • Lagares 2-11, 2B
  • Wright 2-9
  • Rivera 3-8, 2B
  • Cespedes 1-6, 2B
  • Walker 2-5, 2 2B
