The Mets dropped the first game of the series last night against the Padres 5-3. Despite the dimensions of Petco Park, the Mets were able to still hit two homers (Granderson and Cespedes). Tonight, Noah Syndergaard will try to get the Mets back on track while the Mets bats will get a look at Drew Pomeranz.
Noah is 2-1 over 5 starts and 32.1 innings with a 2.51 ERA while striking out 44. In his last start he allowed 4 ER over 5.2 innings while striking out 6, although that doesn’t tell the whole story. In the 4th inning he allowed 3 runs, including a 2 run homer, so a bad inning, and in the next inning, the bullpen allowed a run. Last year Syndergaard was 1-1 against the Padres allowing 7 ER over 12.0 innings while striking out 19. It was the most amount of runs he allowed against any team last year. The Padres have the following numbers against Noah:
- Kemp 0-6
- Norris 2-6, HR
- Shields 0-2
Drew Pomeranz is 2-3 over 5 starts with a 2.48 ERA this year while pitching 29.0 innings. In his last start he allowed 1 ER over 7.0 innings rebounding from his only bad start of the season where he allowed 4 runs, 3 earned over 4.1 innings. He was traded to the Padres from the Athletics this off-season in the Alonso trade. In his career he has pitched 4.0 innings in one start against the Mets allowing 5 hits, 2 runs only 1 earned. A few Mets have seen him in his career:
- Cabrera 1-2, 2B
- Duda 0-1
- Wright 0-1, BB
- De Aza 0-1
Let’s Go Mets!
