The Mets now have one 4 consecutive series and are on a 6 game winning streak as the Giants come into town. It’s very early to scoreboard watch in the division but its been an interesting week in the NL East. The Nationals had a tremendous lead in the division last week, now it’s down to half a game because they got swept by the Phillies. Meanwhile the Marlins just swept the Dodgers, so there are three teams in the division who have won 3 games in a row or more. In other words, there is more competition in the NL East than originally thought.
Steven Matz gets the start for the Mets tonight. He’s 2-1 over 3 starts and 15.0 innings with an ERA of 5.40 while walking 4 and striking out 18. In his last two starts he has tossed 13.1 innings with 2 ER, 17 K’s, 2 BB’s which translates into an ERA of 1.35. This will be Steven Matz’s first start against the Giants and no one on the Giants have faced Matz while on other teams last year.
The Mets draw Jake Peavy to open up hte series. The veteran is 1-1 over 4 starts this year and 21.0 innings with an ERA of 6.86. His last start was the first time this season he allowed less than 4 ER as he went 7.0 innings allowing 2 ER against Miami. Last year he picked up the loss against the Mets even though he pitched really well allowing 2 runs, 1 earned over 7.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Jake:
