Game Preview: Mets @ Phillies

The Mets crushed, cruuuusssshhhheeed, the ball yesterday in Philly as they went on to beat the Phillies by the score of 11-1. Lost in the hype of the homers, which we’ll get to in a bit, is Logan Verrett. Logan put together another strong start, going 6.0 scoreless innings and got a hit himself. The real story of the Mets last night: bombs! Conforto, Cespedes, Walker Twice, Duda and Granderson! The Mets went ham last night. And Juan Lagares stole a three-run homer towards the end of the game. The end result: the Mets clinch their second series win on this road trip and put themselves in position to sweep the Phillies today. Further, the Mets have now won 5 of their last 6 games.

Tonight Bartolo Colon looks to keep the good times going. He’s 1-1 over 3 games, 2 starts this season logging 12.2 innings of work with a 2.13 ERA with 1 walk, 13 K’s and 14 hits. This will be his second start against the Phillies this season. In his first start of the year, he was the hard luck loser going 6.0 innings allowing 1 run and striking out 7. The Phillies have the following numbers against Colon:

  • Howard 6-26, 3 HR
  • Galvis 4-18, 2B
  • Ruiz 5-18, 2B
  • Herrera 4-16
  • Rupp 4-12
  • Hernandez 4-10
  • Bourjos 3-8, 2B
  • Ruf 1-7, HR

Jeremey Hellickson is 1-1 over 3 starts and 14.2 innings this year. He has logged a 4.30 ERA with 2 walks, 13 hits and 14 K’s. This will be his second start on the young season against the Mets. In his first start he allowed 5.2 innings, 3 hits, 2 ER, 1 walk while striking out 5 on his way to a win. It is worth noting that he has allowed only 2 ER over 11.2 runs on the road, and 6 (5 earned) runs at home over 3.0 innings (also worth noting: small sample size). The Mets have the following numbers against Hellickson:

  • Granderson 3-20, 2B, HR
  • De Aza 4-16, 3 2B
  • Cabrera 2-10
  • Cespedes 4-9, HR
  • Duda 1-6, 2B
  • Walker 2-7, 2B
  • Wright 3-5, 2 2B
  • Flores 1-3, 2B
