Game Preview: Mets @ Phillies

The Mets rolled into Philly last night and left the game winning 4 of their last 5 games, returning to the .500 line for the season. David Wright started the game off with a bang hitting his first homer of the season, 21st at CBP and 35th against the Phillies. Then Syndergaard took over in a dominating performance logging 7 innings allowing 1 earned run while striking out 8. The Mets would later get the insurance runs they needed at the end of the game thanks to back to back homers by Duda and Walker. Finally, David Wright hit his 2nd homer of the game, season, 22nd at CBP and 36th against the Phillies.

Tonight Logan Verrett will get the start. His first start of the season was quite successful against the Marlins where he pitched 6.0 scoreless innings allowing 3 hits, 2 walks while striking out two. In 5.1 innings against the Phillies last year he allowed 4 hits and 3 earned runs while walk 4 runs. The Phillies have the following numbers against Logan:

  • Blanco 1-2, 2B
  • Hernandez 0-2
  • Ruf 1-2, 2B
  • Rupp 0-2

The Mets bats will get their second look of the season at Vincent Velasquez who is 2-0 over his first two starts of the season while tossing 15.0 innings, including a complete game shutout. Over his first two starts he has allowed 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 25 batters. His first start of the season was against the Mets and he shut them out over 6.0 innings allowing 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 9. Last year for Houston he was 1-1 over 19 games, 7 starts, logging 55.2 innings with a 4.37 ERA. The Mets put up these numbers against Vincent earlier in the season:
