Game Preview: Yankees @ Mets

The Mets dropped a series at home against the Marlins and it look to rebound against the Yankees in the second leg of the Subway series. The Yankees are in crunch mode as they still have a high, high chance of making playoffs but are trying to win the division. The Mets on the other hand have a magic number of 9 and are looking to wrap this up sooner than later.

Steven Matz gets the start for the Mets. He’s 3-0 over 4 starts and 24.0 innings with a 1.88 ERA while logging 22 strikeouts. In his two starts since returning from the DL, he has allowed 3 ER over 10.1 innings (2.61 ERA) while walking 4 and striking out 8. He has never faced the Yankees in a major league game, or any batters on the Yankees roster.

The Mets draw the Yankee ace today as Tanaka comes to Queens with a 12-6 record over 22 starts and 143.0 innings with a 3.40 ERA. After some average starts in late August, early September, he has locked it down in his last two starts allowing 1 ER over 15.0 innings with 17 strikeouts. His only start against the New York Mets was a good one as he shutout the Mets over 9.0 innings while allowing only 4 hits and striking out 8. The Mets have the following numbers against Tanaka:
