Game Preview: Phillies vs Mets

Last night was a game to forget for the Mets, but luckily the Nationals also had a game to forget to so the Mets maintain their 6.5 game lead in the division. Last night the Mets fell behind 5-0 after the third, were able to fight back to 6-4 before the bullpen just exploded and Phillies were able to put up 14 runs.

Matt Harvey looks to put things back on the right track tonight. He is 11-7 over 24 starts and 160.0 innings with a 2.48 ERA. In his last five starts he has posted a 2-0 record over 34.2 innings with a 0.52 ERA while striking out 33 batters. Its been since May since Harvey has faced the Phillies. In both starts he pitched 6.0 innings and allowed 3 ER. The Phillies have the following numbers against Harvey:

  • Howard 3-13, HR
  • Brown 0-10
  • Ruiz 1-7
  • Asche 1-6, HR
  • Galvis 2-4
  • Herrera 0-6
  • Ruf 0-3

The Mets will get a look at another rookie in the Phillies rotation, Aaron Nola, who is 5-1 over his first 8 starts in his major league career totaling 49.2 innings with a 3.26 ERA. Currently he is on a bit of a hot streak in his last two starts pitching 15.0 innings allowing only one earned run. Aaron has made 18 starts in the minors this year with a 10-4 record and a 2.39 ERA (1.88 over 12 games in AA, 3.58 over 6 games in AAA). This will be his first start against the Mets and has never faced any Mets hitter in a major league game.

Let’s Go Mets!
