Game Preview: Mets @ Phillies

The Mets extended their winning streak to 5 games yesterday and look to make 6 tonight as they take on Jerad Eickhoff and the Phillies. Last night the Mets got a 2 run early then extended to 3-0 before the Phillies were able to put up a 4 spot. Then the Mets kept working, got the lead, kept the lead, apparently insulted Larry Bowa, and Familia got the 4 out save.

For the Mets its Bartolo Colon on the mound who is pitching possibly with a stiff wrist from a come-backer his last time out. As of a couple of days ago it was unclear if he was going to pitch but here we are. Collins announced yesterday that in case of an emergency, Torres and (surprisingly) Verrett are set to come in for a long outing. Colon is 10-11 over 24 starts and 145.0 innings with a 4.90 ERA and a league leading 171 hits this year. He’s coming off of a rough start where he allowed 7 ER over 3.2 innings, but the Mets still won that game. In two starts against the Phillies this year he has allowed 7 ER over 12.0 innings. The Phillies have the following numbers against him:

  • Howard 4-19, 2 HR
  • Ruiz 5-18, 2B
  • Asche 3-11, 2 2B
  • Brown 2-11, 2B
  • Frenchy 1-5
  • Galvis 3-6, 2B
  • Herrera 0-3

Jerad Eickhoff will be making his second major league start against the Mets tonight. He came to the Phillies as part of the Cole Hamels trade earlier this year. His major league debut in Miami was excellent as he shutout the Marlins over 6.0 innings holding them to 5 hits and a walk while striking out 5. Across AA Frisco, AAA Round Rock and AAA Lehigh Valley this season he has a 12-5 record over 23 games, 22 starts, while posting a 3.85 ERA. Obviously, he has never faced any Mets in a major league games.

Let’s Go Mets!
