The Mets are trying to avoid their second consecutive completely disappointing weekend by beating the Marlins today and sidestepping the sweep. Yesterday Niese got the Mets off into a hole but the offense was able to come roaring back to tie the game 5-5. Then the bullpen had some hiccups and the offense couldn’t string anymore hits. Today Bartolo Colon will try to get things right.
Bartolo is 7-3 over 10 starts and 61.2 innings with a 4.82 ERA. After three bad starts in a row, he had a solid start last time out allowing 3 ER over 6.0 innings while striking out 6. His two starts against the Marlins have been quite different. In his first start he held the Marlins to one earned run over 7.0 innings while striking out 5. In his second start he allowed 9 hits and 4 ER over 6.2 innings. The Marlins have the following numbers against Colon:

- Ozuna 2-10, 2B

The Mets bats will deal with David Phelps today who is 2-2 over 10 games and 8 starts over 48.0 innings with a 3.56 ERA. In his last two starts he has allowed 13 hits and 8 ER over 11.0 innings. He’s been pretty good against the Mets this season though where he has logged 10.2 innings with 3 ER and 6 strikeouts. The Mets have the following numbers against Phelps:
