Game Preview: Marlins vs Mets

After a horrible weekend in Pittsburgh where the Mets got swept, they returned the favor the Phillies and now start a series with the Marlins. If there was ever a time the Mets needed a sweep, it was this past series where the wheels started to come off for the club. Now the Mets have a chance to make this a crucial swing home stand behind Matt Harvey as he starts of the series against the Marlins.

Harvey is 5-2 over 9 games this season with a 2.91 ERA over 58.2 innings. He is coming off his worst start of the season, probably his career, where he allowed 7 ER over 4.0 innings to the Pirates and diagnosed with “dead arm” or arm fatigue. In his two previous starts he combined for 15.0 scoreless innings with 18 strikeouts. In his one start against the marlins this year he allowed 4 ER over 6.0 innings while striking out 7. The Marlins have the following numbers against Harvey:

  • Hechavarria 2-10
  • Ozuna 4-9, 3B
  • Prado 2-9
  • Stanton 1-9
  • Solano 3-7
  • Yelich 1-6
  • Gordon 1-3

The Mets bats will get a look at Dan Haren who is 4-2 over 9 starts this seaosn with a 3.09 ERA over 55.1 innings. In his last two starts he has tossed 14.0 innings allowing only 2 ER and striking out 11 batters. This will be his first time against the Mets this season and last year he allowed only 3 hits and 1 ER over 7.0 innings of work. The Mets have the following numbers against Haren:

  • Granderson 9-41, 2 2B, 3 HR
  • Cuddyer 6-34, 2B, HR
  • Murphy 4-17, 2B, HR
  • Lagares 5-12
  • Duda 1-9, 2B
  • Flores 0-2
