The Mets have the chance today to undo the weekend series with Pittsburgh by completing the sweep of the Phillies. In last night’s game, the Mets were cruising through the first seven innings thanks to terrific pitching from Jacob deGrom and one inning of offensive output. The bullpen then blew the game in top of the 8th (even giving deGrom earned runs) and even allowed the go ahead run. The Mets fought back, tying the game in the bottom of the frame and getting the walk-off in the 10th.
Noah Syndergaard looks to shut the door on the Phillies this afternoon. He is 1-2 over 3 starts with a 3.63 ERA in 17.1 innings of work and 16 strikeouts. For Noah, it will be his first start against an NL East team after three starts against NL Central teams. His best start remains his best where he allowed 1 ER over 6.0 innings. In his last start, he had two innings where he allowed 2 runs each (only 3 total were earned), despite that he looked good.
Sean O’Sullivan is on the bump for the Phillies today. He is 1-3 over 5 starts over 28.0 innings and a 3.54 ERA. He is coming off back to back strong starts where he has allowed 2 ER over 12.0 innings while striking out 7. The last time he faced the Mes was in 2013 where he logged 2.0 innings allowing only 3 hits and no runs. The Mets bats have had limited experience with Sullivan:
- Cuddyer 4-11, 2B
- Granderson 3-10, 3 HR
- Murphy 0-1
- Recker 1-1
Lets Go Mets!
