Game Preview: Marlins vs Mets

The Mets will try to extend their streak to 6 wins tonight as they take on the Marlins for game two of the four game set. Last night the Mets found themselves in a hole early thanks to a two run homer by Stanton. Eventually the Mets were done 3-0 until Wilmer Flores stepped up and smacked a three run shot to tie the game. At that point the Mets and Marlins took turns taking the lead and tying the game until the Mets ended up on top 7-5.

Bartolo is making his third start of the season tonight. In his first two games he is 2-0 over 13.0 innings with a 2.77 ERA allowing 9 hits, 4 ER, walking 1 and striking out 13. He made two starts against the Marlins last year logging 14.2 innings with a 2.45 ERA. In that stretch he allowed a lot of hits, 19 but he walked only 1 batter and stuck out 12. The Marlins have the following numbers against Bartolo:

  • Ichiro 31-95, 3 2B, 3B, 3 HR
  • Salty 5-21, 2B, HR
  • Morse 2-8
  • Yelich 2-8
  • Kelly 0-7
  • Ozuna 1-7
  • Solano 3-4
  • Gordon 1-3
  • Hechavarria 0-3

The Mets bats will get a crack at David Phelps tonight. Phelps was traded from the Yankees to the Marlins in the off-season and has made two relief outings this year where he has allowed 4 ER over only 1 inning of work. He is just getting back to the team as his wife gave birth to a baby boy a few days ago. Last year with the Yankees he pitched in 32 games, 17 starts, with a 5-5 record and a 4.38 ERA over 113.0 innings. He didn’t face the Mets in 2014, but in 2013 he started against the Mets allowing 5 runs, 4 earned over 0.1 innings (a very short outing). The Mets have the following numbers against Phelps:

  • Cuddyer 0-2
  • Duda 0-1
  • Murphy 1-1, 2B
  • Tejada 1-1
