The Mets look to build off of a series win against the Reds with a series against the Rockies tonight as a strong month could allow the Mets to flirt with a .500 record for the year. Yesterday the Mets had strong pitching from Wheeler, which led him to his 10th win of the season, and received timely hitting from Recker and Granderson, the latter who is two homers away now from a 20 homer season. Tonight Jon Niese takes the mound against Jordan Lyles.
Jon Niese is 8-10 over 26 starts with 161.1 innings of work and a 3.68 ERA. Niese had a stretch of four strong starts where he allowed 3 ER or less but allowed 6 ER over 6.0 innings in his last start against Miami. He missed the Rockies earlier this season and last year he allowed 3 ER over 6.0 innings and 9 hits in a loss. The Rockies have the following numbers against Niese:
- Stubbs 2-13
- Barnes 1-2, 2B
- Morneau 2-3, 2B
- Rutledge 1-2, HR
Lyles is 6-2 on the season over 18 starts and 103.1 innings with a 4.35 ERA. He is also coming off of a poor start where he allowed 6 ER over 8 hits and 6.1 innings. Before that he allowed 11 ER over 16.2 innings. It has been a while since he has faced the Mets as he missed them this year and last year. Back in 2012 he allowed 1 ER over 3 hits and 6.0 innings on his way to a win. The Mets have the following numbers against Jordan:
- Tejada 0-3
- Wright 2-3, HR
- E Young 1-2
- Niese 1-2
Lets Go Mets!
