Game Preview: Cubs vs Mets

The Mets and Cubs finish off their four game set this afternoon as the Mets look to take the series and the Cubs look for the series split. Yesterday was a game with not a lot of offense which led to the Mets losing 2-1 on free hat day. Today Bartolo Colon gets the start. He is 11-10 on the season with a 3.85 ERA over 24 starts and 161.1 innings. He has put together back to back strong starts allowing 2 ER over 15 innings with 14 K’s. He didn’t pitch against the Cubs earlier in the year and in his career he is 0-2 over 5 starts against the Cubbies with a 4.73 ERA. The Cubs have the following numbers against Bartolo:

  • Valbuena 2-5, 2 HR
  • Sweeney 1-5, 2B
  • Castro 2-3
  • Rizzo 0-3

The Mets bats will try to find themselves against Kyle Hendricks who is off to a strong start in his major league career. He is 4-1 over 6 starts with a 1.73 ERA over 41.2 innings with 9 walks and 26 K’s. He made 17 starts in the minors this year with 102.2 innings of work, a 10-5 record and a 3.59 ERA. He has never faced the Mets in his career and he has not faced anyone on the Mets roster in a major league game.
