The roller coaster part of the Mets series started about two weeks ago when the Yankees swept the Mets at Yankee Stadium. The Mets followed that by a sweep of the Rays, before being swept by the Reds after which the Mets swept the Orioles. The Yankees since that series went on to win 10 straight games and more recently have dropped two games in a row against the Braves.
