The Mets pitching staff went through another change today as Miguel Batista was placed on the 15 day DL. The Mets have activated Chris Schwinden from the Taxi Squad to take his place on the roster.
Schwinden has been a much different pitcher in the minors than the majors. In the minors this season he is 3-2 over 7 games and 39.0 innings of work with an ERA of 2.54. In the majors he has pitched 8 innings over 2 start with a 11.25 ERA.
Personally, I would like to see Hefner get the starting spot in the rotation. He has already put together two nice performances in the majors, and he was used as a starter in the minors. On the season he has made 7 starts with a 3-2 record with a 2.72 ERA over 46.1 innings.
Hefner and Schwinden have similar minor league numbers, and drastically different major league numbers, albeit a very, very small sample size. Realistically, we are looking at two, maybe one or three starts either pitcher would have to make as Chris Young is slated to make his debut in earlier June.
