Mets Front Office Fail from 2005

Sometimes the Mets front office fails in hilarious ways, and that was the case in the offseason between 2005 and 2006. Remember back in November 2005 the Mets were still flirting with the idea of trying to acquire Manny (oh wait, that could also apply to 2006-2009 as well). Anyway, during that time, some one in the PR department of the Mets decided to make an advertisement for Manny, while the Mets legally couldn't be discussing players (publicly). This was the result:

(NY Daily News)

The NY Daily News found this advertisement, that shouldn't have even been made let alone leaked. The Mets Front Office had to claim it explaining that this was done on the Graphic Designer's own time. Full Story here.

This was an internal concept when created. Player aside, I really like the look of this ad. The typeface makes it seem very “city” and the slogan “On The Rise” was correct for that time period. I would assume with the use of the word “Board” twice, this would have been on the subways.
