The Mets start their quest to regain their lead in the NL East and start their quest to find their offense tonight as they go against Nationals for game 3 in the 4 game set. In terms of pitching, both pitchers are really unknown. Knight will be making his second start and forth appearence this year and Martis will be making his third start of the year.
Knight has been around for a while. He was a rookie in 2001 and 2002 and didn't return to the majors till this year at the age of 32 for the Mets. He was a pitcher with team USA this year as well. In terms of stats he has pitched 7 innings this year with an ERA of 6.43 including one inning against the Nationals where he gave up a hit, a walk and a run. That was last week. In New Orleans this year he was good with a 5-1 record over 12 games 43.1 innings pitched and had an ERA of 2.28. He needs to ice the Nationals offense to give the Mets offense a chance to score. At the same time, the Mets bats need to wake up and realize they need to score some runs so they can win some games.
Martis, the pitcher for the Nationals tonight, is young. He is only 21 and making his third start this year. He has gone only 5 innings in both of his first starts and has a 0-2 record but he has pitched well and his ERA of 2.70 reflects that. He was good in the minors as well with a record of 1-2 ver 7 games over 41.2 innings and had an ERA of 3.02. The Mets need to slap him around a bit and show that they can score runs. Its going to be a tough game because the weight of 2007 is starting to return in the form of media harrasment, and the Mets are going to have to fend that off.
They can do this. They know they can do this. Now they just need to do this. Lets Go Mets! Get the Win!
