Well, you can't blame the pen for today's loss in the opener, that's for sure. Once again, Pedro had problems figuring out the Phillies, and they were able to put up a 6 spot in 4 innings. At the same time, the Mets bast could not do anything until Moyer got off the mound. He was amazing over his 7 innings, which was a boost the Phillies needed. The Mets were able to score on the pen though thanks to RBI”s Wright and Beltran.
As much as the loss hurts, you really have to be happy about the Mets pen. For 5 innings, they allowed no runs, only two hits, and only two walks. Thats really great and hopefully since the pen has been good for the last several days, the pressure on the starting pitchers should be decreased, and calmer staff should be able to perform better.
As I write this, the Mets are up 5-2 in the top of sixth, a win here is very important, because that would mean overall, the Phillies only gained one game on the Mets this weekend.
