Game Preview: Mets @ Brewers

The
Mets will start a crucial, hard, three game set with the Brewers this afternoon
with the Brewers. The Brewers are playing very good baseball right now, and the
Phillies will be playing the Nationals tonight, who also, are playing good
baseball (just not nearly as good as the Brewers since they have been doing it
all year). The Brew Crew will be playing with a chip on their shoulder tonight
as they are trying to have a hit changed to an error on yesterday’s one hitter
by Sabbathia. Anyway, today we will see Santana battle it out with Sheets.

Santana
has been on a roll this month, but faces a challenge today. On the season he is
12-7 with a 2.70 ERA that features only 50 BB and 159 K over 190.0 Innings
Pitched. Interesting to note, with the first out recorded by Santana today, he
will hit the 1500 IP milestone, so congrats Santana. Earlier this year, he was
hit very hard by the Brew crew giving up 4 runs and 3 homers over 6.2 innings.
He took the loss in the game. In August, he has been very good. He is 3-0 over
6 games and 42.1 innings with 11 BB and 34 K. His ERA during that time has been
1.91. Here are some Brewer stats against him:

            Durham 6-15, 2 2B, 2 HR

            Kendal 1-17

            Hall 3-15

            Weeks 4-5, 3B, 2H

Santana
seems like a different pitcher this half of the year, and will look like a very
different pitcher in the eyes of the Brew Crew. So he needs to mow them down
and he will need the offense to light up Sheets.

Sheets
is also having a good year this year. He is 12-7 just like Santana with a 3.05
ERA. In August he has been 2-3 over 5 games, but he has been very good despite
that record (33.2 IP, 2.67 ERA). He beat the Mets earlier this year, giving up
only 3 runs in 7.2 innings. Historically, he has given the Mets fits:

            Castillo 7-19, 3B

            Delgado, 2-12, 2B, HR, 6 K

            Beltran 2-9, 4 K

            Reyes 1-9

            Wright 4-7, 2B, HR

With
the exception of Castillo and Wright, he owns the Mets lineup. The Mets are now
featuring a few players he hasn’t seen before like Murphy, Evans, to name a few
and hopefully they, and the rest of the team will be able to figure him out and
beat him. Lets G
o
Mets!
